I discovered Nude Foods by accident on my way to New York Bagels on the opposite side of the street (which deserves its own review). At first, wondering into that alleyway with murals and tables, I thought Nude Foods was about a restaurant – until I approached the entrance door at the back and caught a glimpse of the shop itself. I immediately felt like a child in a candy shop. And immediately I understood why they called themselves Nude Food. There was absolutely no plastic. Everything was in jars or containers. I found myself transported back into a general store that reminded me more of the 1960s than the 2020s. Going through the rows, I discovered all the possible delicacies that you would have to go to several stores for, black rice, dry dates, unsweetened, natural muesli, fresh vegetables, olive oil and so much more. Nude Foods is now on my list for every Cape town visit to stock up on quality food and feel good about avoiding all that plastic I would have bought for the same things at any other shop. And it’s not just the food and the absence of plastic. It is a beautiful place with a very relaxed atmosphere. I could spend a whole hour in there and marvel at the beautiful food and all the smells.

Amazing zero waste shop with a large diversity of products, including dry and fresh food as well as house and skincare products

This is a Zero-waste store that I find authentic and convincing, that made me change habits. While I still buy most of my food at traditional retailers, most of my cosmetics and cleaning supplies now come from here, purchased in affordable, reusable glass packaging. Nude Foods is awesome and makes other zero-waste stores like 'Sans' seem like overpriced fashion boutiques.

One of my favourite places in Cape Town. Such a simple idea of a plastic free supermarket it’s changing the world little by little, more places should take note of what this place is doing. The best part has to be the the freshly ground peanut or almond butters that you make yourself.
