I would not waste my time with this venue. Tried to book the Ashley Kriel Hall on Friday 31 October for 6 December and was told that they have a provisional booking the said date and that the person who they are holding the booking for was supposed to get back to them on Tuesday 28th but never did and that they have been trying to contact this person with no success. So I offered to come in and pay for the hall in full but was told that they have to wait until Monday 3 November. Monday I called and was told that they still did not hear from the person who they were holding the booking for and that they were still not able to contact the person but still did not want to release the hall to me. Now I mean, this is a community hall, I am part of the community and live in the area, I was willing to pay the full amount immediately but was still refused. The person who did not get back to the building manager timeously received more courtesy than someone who was well within her rights to be allowed to book and pay for hall. When booking this hall does certain people get preference over others, or does it depend on the building manager's mood? I am very keen to know the answer to this question because from what I have heard this is an on going problem. Is this a 'community' hall or is it a private hall available to certain people only? 11 Nov: In response to the buildining manager's reply "I understand your frustration, but i suggest that in future you do not make random statements about the building manager or the community hall simply because we could not accommodate you due to a previous booking which was explained in detail to you ..." my statement is not random it is my point of view based on MY experience and nothing about my experience was "random". You had a previous booking which according to the detailed explanation by your colleague had a deadline which had already lapsed. The fact that it is privately owned in neither here nor there when it comes to booking procedures. Perhaps in future make it clear to potential clients that the venue is privately owned and that confirmation of the venue is dependent on who makes the booking (as in police, non-profit organizations etc.) Please Mr Building Manager, as it stands we live in a country where freedom of speach is allowed and you of all people, considering what your building is used for and who the owners are, should perhaps refrain from telling people what they can and can't say and should or should not do. As for a visit to your venue, I will politely decline your offer as I have no intention of hosting a function there in the future.

Community based facility housing trade union movements & their activities.. Venues are also available for hire for meetings, social functions ect.... Very conveniently located.

Our indoni event was wonderful at Community house. A very special place and space. The management were incredible to work with and very supportive. We would love to have more events there when the time is right. The acoustics in the Ashley Kriel hall are excellent. Our students were able to use the Imam Haron hall to change. Both halls carry powerful history and memory. An honour to be creative and productive at community house. Doing yoga and performing with Ashleigh Kriel in the background was sobering and inspiring.

This is provincial heritage site. Here, countless meetings of workers and communities in struggle against the apartheid regime, took place Historical murals and interview clips are there too. Building is still used as a centre of activism and training of new generation of activists. We also have an office there but you need to make a prior arrangement as we are on the road quite often.
