Campsite on Signal Hill with bunk rooms, braai area, and hiking trail access
Gorgeous campsite with access to area for building campsites on the grass. There's also a parade ground, bunk rooms, toilets, showers, a braai area, washing up area, a campfire circle and a small hall. There's a parking area inside that can fit about 8 cars and trailers and it is a good starting point for hiking up Lion's Head.
Appleton Campground is an absolute gem. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with a spacious green lawn that offers plenty of room for camping without feeling crowded. The firepit is a real highlight—perfect for cozy evenings, campfire songs, and memorable gatherings under the stars. Waking up to the stunning ocean views is simply unbeatable, and for nature lovers, the surrounding hiking trails offer endless opportunities to explore and soak in the scenery. Peaceful, scenic, and well cared for—this is a campground we can’t wait to return to.
For what was previously an old WW2 radar station and is now a Scout campsite, it is a wonderful place to stay. It has and is being worked on constantly by the Wardens staying there, of which I currently am one of them, to make the stay of our guest more enjoyable. Great location to start hikes from, host events or just enjoy a sunset.
Fantastic learning environment and experience for the youth. Lions Head Hike on the doorstep of Appleton and ideal hike for younger scouts. 1st Naruna & Constantia Scout Group.
The lawn overlooking Clifton offers breathtaking views of the sunset. Well kept flora and friendly fauna makes this a great getaway nestled atop the city.
