Great location... Service and food was good. Flat white 6/10... We had the chicken wrap, prawn wrap and wings... No complaints about the food... Good size portions and great tasting food... Staff are friendly and attentive...

Unfortunately, our experience tonight was quite disappointing. I ordered the prawn cocktail and was immediately concerned that the prawns appeared undercooked. After trying one, the texture seemed unusually slimy and the appearance was still somewhat translucent. I wasn't willing to risk food poisoning and raised my concern with the manager. While he explained that the prawns arrive pre-cooked (aka not fresh), there was not much of an apology, reassurance, or follow-up after I sent the dish back. Additionally, my friend ordered a burger and fries. The burger was served cold, and both his fries and the fries that came with my meal seemed as though they had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. To the Waxy’s credit, the prawn cocktail was removed from the bill. However, neither the manager nor the waitress came back to explain this, apologize for the experience, or acknowledge our concerns. The lack of communication and customer service was just as disappointing as the food itself. Overall, we had to cut our night short & advise our pending guests to meet us elsewhere after feeling unheard and undervalued as paying customers.

We stopped at Waxy O’Connor’s in Ballito for an early lunch after visiting a nature reserve up the South Coast. I had an Italian friend with me and we were heading back to my hometown in Cape Town. We thought a quick pub lunch would be a great way to end a lovely adventure. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. Our food arrived cold. The onion rings were cold, the burger buns were cold, and the chips were cold. When we raised this with the waitress, she responded immediately and apologised. She took the plates back to sort it out, which we appreciated. However, when the food returned, it was clearly the same plates simply warmed up. The chips seemed to have been redone, but the burger buns and onion rings were just reheated. Even the tomato and coleslaw were warm, which says everything. It felt careless and rushed rather than properly corrected. The manager came by and asked if we were happy. We explained that we weren’t and showed her the issues. She simply walked off and did nothing further. That was the most disappointing part. Service recovery matters, and there was none. The sad thing is that the waitress tried to help, yet management failed to step in properly. There was also no one else in the restaurant at the time, so this cannot be blamed on pressure or volume. If you’re looking for mass-produced pub food without much care or attention to detail, this may suit you. If you’re expecting good-quality pub food, prepared properly and served with decent attention to service, this is not the place. Basic details were also missed. We had to ask for knives and forks. Overall, very disappointing.

Visiting Balito for the weekend, some friends asked us to join them here at Waxy. Lovely selection of beers on tap. Service is quick even though the place was quite busy. The food took a bit longer than expected, around 50min…..but the drinks came really quick which helped with the waiting. Vibe is great, can recommend coming here.

It was our first time visiting Waxy O‘Connor’s and what a pleasant experience it was! Natalie was our waitress, and was such a darling. Super friendly and caring about our orders as well as time spent, ensuring all is good during our visit. The food was great, the atmosphere was amazing and the staff is super chirpy and happy all the way. We had simple meals, burgers… a cheat day for us😊, and each one, being a different kind, was really delicious! 🤤 Will surely be visiting again when we feel like a bit of an outing!
