Having travelled to Thailand twice—Phuket and Koh Samui—and with no shortage of Thai restaurants back home in South Africa, my benchmark is admittedly high. Once you’ve tasted the real thing, it’s hard to settle for pale imitations. That said, this place didn’t just meet expectations—it hit the bullseye. We started with chicken spring rolls and crab-and-prawn wonton dumplings. The spring rolls were perfectly crisp, and the homemade dipping sauce was so good we shamelessly scraped the bowl clean. No regrets. The standout, however, was the Tamarind specialty served with fragrant jasmine rice. You can choose between chicken or duck, and with adventurous palates we went for the duck. A very wise decision. The meat was exceptionally moist, the skin beautifully crisp, and the portion size generous—surprisingly so. Sharing turned out to be a blessing. Service deserves its own applause. The manager checked in on us regularly without hovering, clearly knowledgeable about the cuisine and the owners’ history, genuinely warm, quick with a joke, and even handing out a few high fives. Everything arrived promptly—including the bill. Fellow South Africans will understand why that detail matters. Don’t take my word for it. Go experience it yourself… and then tell me I’m wrong.
