Awesome experience riding the cable car. one of the city's most iconic attractions, running from the heart of the central business district up into the hillside suburb of Kelburn. It is New Zealand’s last remaining historic funicular railway, operating on a unique counterbalance system since 1902. The trip takes about 5 minutes one way, rising 120 metres and traveling through tunnels featuring striking interactive LED light shows.

Cute! Very short ride, would recommend up and then walking down through the botanical gardens. If you are quite comfortable walking for a while, I also recommend just walking back down instead of taking the trolley.

​The Wellington Cable Car is highly recommended if you’re visiting the city. The ride itself is really fun, especially with the unique slanting position and the awesome, colorful light displays when passing through the tunnels. ​Once you reach the top, the views over the city and harbor are absolutely beautiful —especially on a clear, sunny day! There's a lovely viewing deck at the summit perfect for photos, plus you're right next to the Botanic Garden and the Cable Car Museum. It's an affordable, quick, and iconic experience that you shouldn't miss.

Kudos to the friendly staff! My partner and I are from California, and it's really cool so see cable cars similar to my home city San Francisco. Before boarding, there are some good eatery options available sushi or cafe food. At the end of the line, there's a walkway to the botanical garden as well as a gift shop with historical photo opportunities and educational information.

Really nice ride, only expected it to be a little longer but it is advertised that it’s only about 5 minutes! Amazing views at the top and a lot of fun activities to choose from! Only downside is parking (as a tourist with a car) it was horrible to find any parking so account for that!
