It's a nice botanical garden but it does not compare to the botanical gardens in Europe or North America. Definitely worth a visit but keep your expectations low if you have visited botanical gardens elsewhere. If you are limited by time, just visit the Rose garden in summer. In winter, obviously, there are no roses growing. The gardens have trails which are fun to do. The duck pond and the play area for the children are nicely done. Going up by the cable is worth it.

We were recently married at Remembrance Ridge in the Wellington Botanic Garden, and it was such a beautiful spot for a wedding. The setting is stunning, with so many picturesque areas throughout the gardens. Nat-Lîm was fantastic to work with - very responsive, helpful, and clear on what we could and couldn’t do, which made the planning process really straightforward. They also helped by booking out specific spots for us to take photos before the ceremony, which we really appreciated. We had some friends set everything up for us on the day and placed signage around the gardens to help guide guests to the location, which worked perfectly. We’d highly recommend getting married in the Botanic Gardens - there are so many incredible spots to choose from, and it makes for such a special Wellington setting. Lovely garden to wander around, especially in good weather. Would recommend getting one way cable car to take you up but walk back down through the gardens Cable car museum is worth visiting

Combine it with a cable car ride. It is a lovely place. Peacefull with nice views. There's a great playground as well. A little hard to walk with little kids because of the gradient going up and down the hill. Unfortunatly a few tracks were closed cause of the storms in the last couple of weeks. Be careful - wind is very hard. It could blow you away.

Wellington Botanic Garden is a beautiful and peaceful escape right in the heart of the city. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy nature, and take a break from sightseeing. The gardens are well maintained, with a wonderful mix of native and exotic plants, colourful flower beds, and wide open green spaces that invite you to wander at your own pace. One of the highlights is taking the cable car up to the top, which adds a fun and scenic start to the visit with great views over Wellington along the way. From there, you can enjoy an easy downhill walk through the gardens, stopping at various lookout points and quiet corners for photos or relaxation. Easily accessible and suitable for all ages, the Botanic Garden is an ideal stop whether you have a short visit or a few hours to spare. If you’re in Wellington, this is a calm and refreshing experience not to be missed.
