It’s only my second time at the Tory urban retreat ( for sauna and cold plunge) but it’s worth the travel for me to make this a regular trip from Kapiti . While I was waiting to go in a regular client arrived and said quietly ‘this really is the best in New Zealand ‘ I have to agree. In equal parts calming and peacful, with really lovely staff , the sauna is a deeply relaxing and healing space . Fully recomended …
I had an amazing massage experience. Due to recent surgery I wasn’t able to lie on my front. I only informed my therapist on the day. Chiharu absolutely went out of her way to ensure I was comfortable and had a relaxing experience. She had to change her whole approach to the massage with no notice, but she did do with grace and compassion, even saying she enjoyed the challenge to do things differently. I was so grateful because it’s been a rough surgery recovery and the massage was much needed. Chiharu couldn’t have done more or been a better masseuse. I’m so very grateful.
This place is perfect for sauna. I got hooked on Finnish sauna last year in Finland and these guys do such a good job! The only difference is that instead of guests throwing the water in the fire, the staff does that and stokes the air. Their setup is really good, the sauna is built well, and doesn’t lose heat when the door opens. The cold plunge is also well set up, and they have some nice places to relax in between cycles. All around great place. Tamahou is great at the front desk if you have questions, and they have some really good pricing to top it all off!
I absolutely love this sanctuary in the middle of the CBD. The staff are all incredibly warm and kind, the surroundings are beautiful, so many small details are taken care of to make the sauna/plunge, massage and other services (highly recommend the float!) super relaxing and enjoyable. If I ever need a wee recharge or reset, Tory Urban Retreat is always right up the top of my “to do” list. Thanks team! Keep up the excellent work!
I can’t fault the staff or facilities, overall I had a very well guided and pleasant time. The aroma in the sauna was herbaceous and enjoyable. However, it may be due to remind clients about basic respect. I felt gawked at, and being stared at intently by men in their 60‘s + with genitals on display wasn’t the wind-down I was after. Young men also made a point to flirt, which was irritating. As well, the session I was in was host to some very chatty women. I feel that etiquette could be re-upped even with repeat clients.
