Our group of 5 had a wonderful birthday meal on a cold capital Friday night recently. The scene was set just right with complimentary birthday bubbles or mocktails and a very sweet birthday message. We started with 2 shared entrees - duck pate and fish rillette served with toasted sourdough. We were split on which was better - silky smooth pate or chunky flavoursome fish. Our mains were across the board hearty and flavoursome - highlights were the mushroom risotto, cooked to just the right consistency; beef cheeks meltingly tender and the meaty house made sausage. No room for dessert unfortunately! Service from our charming wait person was attentive, friendly and personal. She delivered frequent water top ups, answered our questions (allergens at the table) and got our orders spot on. It’s no wonder that the Thistle remains a stayer in this particularly challenging time for hospo!
