The Shepherd's Arms is an incredible place - to grow MOLD. Holy MOLDY, this place is grim. We arrived early evening and had a shower, which was interrupted when staff knocked on the door saying there was water leaking into the restaurant! After the interruption, we went down stairs for dinner. We ordered the cheese burger & fries, which is essentially a big Mac but without the sauce. The "2 patties" were actually 2, dry, flavourless half-size patties. The cheese was visible, but couldn't taste it over the dry-bun flavor. The filling didn't reach the side of the buns. Back up to the room and we had a closer look at how the place could have flooded and ROT did we find? See the pics I've attached. The shower has a wet-area floor that extends into the structure of the building and presumably, all the way down to the restaurant. The Value brand toilet paper rests up against the damp bathroom wall to unhelpfully collect condensation. Coffee in the room but no milk, not even a spoon. You can feel the springs in the bed, underneath the stained blankets. The heater was dirty and the base was broken. The bar manager was dismissive and gave us milk in a cardboard coffee cup with a lid that didn't fit. Thankfully the dude with really short hair who helped us with seating, and the young woman who brought us our meals were genuinely pleasant and the redemption of the whole experience. If you need a place to stay close to the ferry, just sleep in your car. The Shepherd's Arms? More like, The Sinking Ship.
