Scorch O Rama is more than just a café — the real highlight is the artistic character of the building itself and the incredible handcrafted shell artwork beside it. The café sits on the ground floor of a large seaside building, and while the coffee and café atmosphere are pleasant, what truly makes this place memorable is the creative feature wall made almost entirely from pāua shells, sea shells, stones, and recycled glass. The artwork feels like stepping into a handmade fairy tale world by the sea. The shell mosaics tell imaginative stories — mermaids, castles, birds, sea creatures, and fantasy scenes — all created using locally sourced materials from the ocean. Every section is full of detail and personality, and you can feel the time, patience, and creativity behind it. 最吸引人的其实不是咖啡本身，而是这种“把海边材料变成艺术”的创造力。 The combination of colourful shells, textured walls, and seaside atmosphere gives the place a very unique Wellington coastal character. It feels personal, handmade, and deeply connected to the local environment. Definitely worth stopping here — not only for a coffee, but to appreciate the creativity and storytelling built from the treasures of the sea.

This really surprised me! We were in the area and wanted a little late afternoon drink. Walking in and seeing all the retro pop culture stuff was a great surprise! Star Wars Lego, movie posters, tables with video game box art - loved it! Seeing Crash Bandicoot and Banjo Kazzooie was a treat. The toilets were a fun surprise too! Food wise we shared a Vegan Loaded Fries which was delicious! One of the best I've ever had, would recommend. Vegan Banana Smoothie was decent, but a bit too juice like for my taste. Staff were nice enough but nothing to write home about. Fantastic location by the sea; we sat inside but had a great window view. Will be returning for sure when we next visit Wellington. Guh huh!

Amazing place! I was spoilt with vegan options! I am a frequent avocado on toast-er (call me basic I know) and this was honestly one of THE best avo on toasts I’ve ever had. They even had a vegan cake which finished off the meal wonderfully. Staff were very attentive and so friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend stopping here when in Wellington!

Absolutely loved Scorch-o-Rama! The food was excellent and the portions were massive — great value and incredibly satisfying. The whole team was so friendly and welcoming, happily helping us out and even offering to take photos for us. We’re from Australia and this place will definitely be on our must-visit list the next time we’re back in NZ. Highly recommended!
