I have had fond experiences here in the past. Last Saturday night was 24 hour party people (which I attend just about every time it's on to support the excellent DJ Simon). $20 entrance for that reason is palatable even if the event is mellower than usual. Bar staff made our night and our group dynamic awkward when one of us was denied what would have been our first drink; bar staff accused him of "acting weirdly" in the bathrooms. Sometimes it takes a while to open up the stall when you're mid-pee, not expecting to be accused of doing something you aren't, and are generally shy/confused about the situation. Furthermore it is offensive to be accused of taking drugs when you aren't. I understand that staff are responsible for peoples' safety and that it's their imperative to decide whom to serve (I have worked in the industry too), but hospitality and warmth make a big difference. I'm not disrespecting the decision (although it was baseless) but rather the approach/rudeness/making us feel unwelcome at an event we look forward to. I will still support San Fran - they host great gigs - but am less inclined to buy drinks here (which I always have, generously, even as a broke student) after this unfriendly and unexpected experience.
