We also offer free Wi-Fi, a TV lounge, and laundry facilities.
I'd like to leave a nice review but I have to be honest.
I think we may have been given the worst room? Didn't look anything like the nice photo's online.
2/3 of the toilet cistern had black mold/mildew on it. The shower was so old it was yellow & peeling. Our pillows were hard. The duvet under the bedspread had old bloodstains on it. I pointed the stains out to the cleaner, she said she'd tried to get them out by soaking the cover without success.(Shouldn't it have been replaced)
No TV in the bedroom, but we had our computer.
We did have new carpet⭐
So the room was in the process of being renewed.
The guests house was in a good location. Walking distance to TePapa if you're fit. Handy to Buses, food outlets, take aways.
We had a hire car that John arranged for us to park on the road outside.
Breakfast was cereal (lots of choices including gluten free)
Toast & spreads. Tea, Coffee.
You could also use the kitchen to make a drink any time untill 10pm

Absolutely awful experience, DO NOT stay here.
The parking organised by the John for the accommodation is a scam, and the host is extremely aggressive and impolite. I have never before had an experience with someone who acts like this and we have been left shocked.
The person running Richmond guesthouse John was rude and horrible to us from the get go, we thought he was joking at the start (which some other people have mentioned in their reviews too) and soon realised he wasn't.
The PARKING SET UP IS A SCAM, he makes guests write down their details and car regos on a piece of paper and "emails your rego to the council" this is a complete scam. I rang the Wellington council afterwards, to double check I was correct and they said there's no way guests can be parking on Brougham Street without paying and displaying Coupons ($18.50 a day) in the car or having a resident parking permit (which is not possible as they are only for residents). He got even more angry at me when I asked to clarify the parking as I was questioning it (due to knowing how Wellington parking rules work) and started yelling at me and my parents in front of other guests who were in the kitchen at the time.
We ended up putting the bags in the room locking the door and leaving, without even checking out the place as we just wanted to get out of there. We then went back about 15mins later to grab our bags, leave and book a new place to stay. We left the room completely untouched, so don't even know the state of it and therefore can't comment on cleanliness etc.
I think he is taking advantage of guests from overseas where there is a language barrier and they do not know about the parking rules.
Please also note the other reviews that also mention Johns behaviour towards certain guests, and it is noted in a lot that he also acts more aggressive and rude towards women, which myself and my mum found his demeanour towards us was even nastier. We did not feel safe staying here!
He doesn't do text, or read his emails through booking.com and was extremely rude when we said we weren't able to get in touch prior to our arrival to let him know what time we would be there. We were being polite by communicating our arrival and he was shocking in return.
John's responses to some other peoples reviews online also show how shocking he talks to guests, and is exactly how he talks to people in person. Please read these and be aware! We wish we filmed the interaction with John to show other people just how awful it was.

John the owner, what a great and generous personality! I stayed 4 nights and was able to get anywhere Miramar by bus straight to weta workshop. And Mt. Victoria just 5 min. walking. Nice B&B and it seemed very "British" to me😁 like if you stay with someone's family in a suburb of leeds or London. I liked it! I write this now 11 years later... (2014 - 2025) but I still remember this place.

Breakfast is only cereal and toast
It's walking distance to town however it's hilly on the way back
It seemed clean on first glance however when you look properly it's not. The shower plug was disgusting. Must have been .months since it was cleaned
However it's well priced so you get what you pay for

Clean and tidy rooms, great selection of TV channels, fresh towels every day. The room was smaller than anticipated, perhaps more photos of the rooms on the website would be a good idea. If you are gluten free you will need to take your own bread, there is a gluten free cereal.
