We had a kind and proactive waitress who took great care of all. All staff were outstanding. The cocktails were absolutely beautiful tasting. The flavours of the food were so rich and delectable. The flavours of the Hapuku fish and shiitake mushrooms were stand out. Lovely atmosphere, nice bathrooms. Definitely recommend

Excellent experience at Liberty Restaurant. The staff is efficient, professional and attentive throughout the meal. The food was impeccable, with perfectly executed dishes, well balanced and full of flavour. You can clearly feel the quality of the kitchen work and the care given to the ingredients. Without hesitation, Liberty is among my top 5 restaurants in Wellington. But I have to admit I’m still a little biased… my favourite restaurant remains a French one 😊 I will definitely come back with great pleasure.

Following a mix up dining times we showed up thinking we had lost our booking entirely. Fortunately, the amazing wait staff managed to find some space and put us up at the chef’s table. Our waitress suggested we did 4-6 plates to share between the two of us (spoiler: it ended up being the perfect amount for 2 very hungry diners!). The food was absolutely incredible and with some banging flavour profiles. Each time the chef presented a dish to us, he talked us through the different flavour components and how they would complement each other when eaten together - this absolutely added to the experience and made the night that much more memorable. Drinks: • Sherbet Fizz - sweet, fruity and slightly tart from the pop of the freeze dried raspberries sprinkled on the top. 5/5 • Passionfruit Mojito - refreshing, slightly sour, bright 4/5 To start: • Malaysian Fried Chicken | Basil Mayo | Hot Honey - light and crisp batter, SO JUICY, beautiful fragrance from the spices and fried curry leaves. The honey added the perfect sweet heat. 5/5 (recommend) Small plate: • Crispy Eggplant | Edamame Hummus | Cashew Dukkah | Gochugang Tahini - I’ve never put these flavours together, but it makes sense. The eggplant was perfectly tender with a crunchy exterior, paired perfectly with the hummus and there was enough of the tahini sauce that you get the creaminess when eaten altogether. 5/5 (recommend) Large plate: • Venison Flat Iron Steak | Vindaloo Carrot Purée | Pickled Blueberries | Black Garlic Labneh - the flavour profile of this dish was 100% my favourite of the night. The smokiness from the venison cooked on the grill, paired with the sweet spiced vindaloo purée and the pop you get from the blueberry was mind blowingly delicious. 100/5 (RECOMMEND!) • Lamb Rump | Baba Ganoush | Olive Tapenade - again, the flavour profile on this was delicious. The lamb was tender, albeit the slightest bit dry. Thankfully, the baba ganoush added a bit of moisture back to the bite. Still not a bad dish at all and we very much enjoyed it! 4/5 Sides: • Chilli Fries (not pictured) - truthfully, I didn’t get to taste much of this because my partner was chowing down on them but it goes to show how tasty they are! They look quite unassuming but they definitely pack a punch of heat. They were fried to perfection. Beautifully crunchy on the outside, fluffy in the middle and then the heat comes creeping in- which is slightly offset by the creamy mayo accompanying it. 4/5 (recommend if you like spice) Overall, the hospitality, food and atmosphere was top tier. We would definitely dine here again for a date night! [Booked through First Table]

This is the best “special occasion” restaurant in Wellington, I’m 100% convinced. We were lucky to secure a First Table booking, which made the experience much more affordable. Even at 5:00pm, the atmosphere was great, with a few other groups dining and a nice buzz in the room. The wine selection is excellent, with an extended list available on request. I had the Marc Brédif Vouvray and thoroughly enjoyed it. For starters, we shared the grilled octopus, sourdough bread, and crisped eggplant. The eggplant was a standout, lightly fried with a sweet crust, soft on the inside, and served piping hot. For mains, we shared the wild Fiordland venison and the slow cooked lamb shoulder. These dishes really sold Liberty to me. The venison was the dish of the night, with an incredible smoky flavour on the outside, perfectly paired with pickled blueberries, vindaloo creamed carrots, and black garlic labneh. A truly memorable dish. The lamb was also fantastic. The olive tapenade with caponata and dates was outstanding. The chefs’ attention to detail, especially their generosity and execution with sauces, really elevated the entire dining experience. I haven’t had anything comparable elsewhere. We were very full by the time dessert came around but couldn’t resist the tiramisu cheesecake. Like everything else, it was beautifully presented. The raspberry sauce was a highlight, it looked like a thick gel but had a surprisingly creamy texture. The coffee liqueur element on top tied it all together perfectly. The service matched the quality of the food. The staff were warm, attentive, and took the time to explain each dish. The pacing was spot on, never rushed, with just the right amount of time between courses to enjoy and reflect on each one. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Very much enjoyed this restaurant chosen at random on a cruise stop overnight. Very impressed by the young team running the show. Talented team in the kitchen and a very friendly professional service from other staff. Our server Emma was very helpful and interactive. The food was vibrant fresh and inventive. Powerful flavours and combinations made the whole experience memorable. We started with the butterfish and shrimp toastie.. packed a punch of flavour was delicious. We tried the prawn and paua dumplings which had a lovely spice and touch of chillie… excellent. The hot smoked snapper was fantastic the crisps that came with it could have been crispier. We finished with the miso marinated hapuka which again was delicious. All in all a great restaurant I would happily return too.
