Decided just to walk around the reserve using the Northern Walkway Trailhead. The scenery was very nice however I think the Wellington Botanic Gardens may have bee a better choice

Beautiful forest walk up to the top of the hills with great 360 degree views of Wellington. A special place indeed

Not too hard a climb, with great all-round views at the top on a good day. Watch out for the gorse up top tho, it's a bit prickly if you get a little off-track. Someone has cleverly provided optional side-tracks if you don't like the stairs (but there are not too many at least). Good options on continuing a walk along the Skyline track heading north to Mt Kaukau or south to Karori or Makara.

A gourgeous view from the top of the hill! The circle route was easy enough to walk with a toddler. The way down was a bit scary as after the dawn the forest seemed really wild (thanks, God, we're not in Australia!).

Johnston's Hill is a good viewpoint over Karori to the harbour. It's a not-too-difficult walk up from Hauraki Street, and an easy diversion if you're walking or riding along Skyline
