An off-leash dog exercise area in Northland, Wellington
Great to take a hyperactive dog to, no worries about him escaping onto the road. It is very boggy in winter, though there's not much anyone can do about that - the park's former life as a rubbish tip in the bottom of a gully means the drainage is always going to be terrible.
This is a fenced, dog off-lead exercise area. It gets boggy in winter but is great at other times. Can get busy on weekends & with more than 6 or so dogs, it can feel small. Has a tap for water & occasionally dog poo bags are in the container.
Not very scenic, but well fenced and the dogs love it. Beware sometimes can be very muddy after rain (there's a dry footpath for owners, but dogs can definitely end up needing a bath afterwards)
We went for a quick visit with our dogs and if you keep on the track it's fine but the grass was very rough to walk on. There weren't many trees but some flaxes etc which seemed to be a bit muddy underneath. Lots of room to run. And an agility seesaw 🙂
I was pleased to discover that this exercise area is fully fenced; it reassured me that my young dog could not run onto the road or off into the horizon. Unfortunately, the park doesn't offer much; it's essentially an enclosed field, with water and waste bags supplied. There are some flax bushes down on one end. It would be a good idea to bring a dog toy from home. I recommend bringing a jacket, gumboots and a few towels as the park can get cold and swampy after a rainy day.
