Post dinner dessert, the Willis St shop was open to 10pm. Many varieties of flavours, not your usual vanilla and chocolate. Was able to try quite a few before purchase, the underlying base is surprisingly salty. Ended up choosing strawberry matcha and pistachio honey.

The sundae was delicious. The little cone crunch pieces on top just took it to another level. The quality of the ice cream was very good. I liked how the chocolate sauce seemed to be proper chocolate and not the cheap artificial stuff that doesn't taste of chocolate. There is a huge variety of ice cream and sorbet flavours. Worth a visit if you are in Wellington

Fantastic service at this ice-cream store. There are nice indoor public benches nearby to enjoy your ice-cream too 8 vegan options to choose from, two of which are sorbets and there's one really good non coconut based flavour (cherry almond crisp). I highly recommend it, it's one of the best ice-cream flavours I've had, chunky and super sweet with a lot going on, good if your into Ben and jerries vegan flavours Just wish they moved more away from coconut

Attending a symposium in Wellington, one attendee told me that while I was in town I had to try an ice cream from Duck Island Ice Cream. This small-batch artisan ice creamery from Waikato has two outlets in Wellington. I visited the one in Wellington Central, which is downstairs in the Willis Lane amusement arcade. This egalitarian ice cream maker has an extensive range of vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and allergen-considerate options: check out their website for further information, including which flavours avoid tree-nuts. There’s an old-fashioned feel to their scoop shops, with ice cream sundaes, milkshakes and ice cream floats all on offer. The colours feel natural, with a flavour guide scrawled on the glass. A small two-scoop cup (NZ$8) was more than enough ice cream for me. Peppermint slice should make Peppermint Patty fans rejoice with sharp aromatic mint cutting through lashings of chocolate sauce. Pecan butterscotch was hectically sweet with maple brown sugar ice cream cut by rivers of butterscotch sauce. It’s dotted with salty butter-roasted pecans taken far enough in the roast to have a tiny bit of bitterness. The ice cream itself is super-creamy and ice crystal free. I’d be keen to try the dairy-free strawberry, coconut and lime-leaf ice cream next time I’m in the land of the long white cloud. Like all flavours in their list, Duck Island guarantees it contains the actual ingredients listed in the name: New Zealand strawberries, coconut milk, and fragrant makrut leaves.

I can’t eat milk products… so it’s amazing to me to be able to enjoy a delicious chocolate ice cream cone. Great service too. This place caters to so many dietary requirements- the ice cream and gelato were flavourful, creamy, smooth and ice cold. Love it. The cones are decent quality also. Long live Duck Island.
