We had booked a table for dinner and arrived on time. However, we were told we would need to wait while our table was being set up. After waiting at the bar for 30 minutes, I got up and asked if our table was ready, only to be told they thought we wanted to have drinks at the bar. (They never actually took our drinks order in that time, we probably would have enjoyed waiting at the bar if we had actually been offered a drink). I don’t like to jump to conclusions in any way, but as two young Polynesians we’re often treated differently in some settings, so it’s hard not to think whether that played a part here. The service was absolutely fine otherwise, it just felt like the misunderstanding was just made to seem like a mistake on our part. After being seated, we ordered the steak tartare and focaccia as entrees. The focaccia was stunning, no complaints there. However, the steak tartare was quite lacklustre and tasted as though someone had poured a jar of pickles over raw meat, overpowering the other flavours. For the main course, I ordered the pork belly, which was served on a bed of beetroot sauce. The dish was interesting, but the flavours of the pork, beetroot, and other components seemed to compete with one another rather than complement each other. I found it difficult to fully enjoy. We finished with the layered honey cake and the apple tart. My partner absolutely loved the apple tart, and the honey cake was my favourite dish of the evening.
