The Uretara Stream Esplanade Reserve is a lovely stretch of protected greenway that borders the historic Uretara Stream. It connnects Katikati’s historical centre with its coastal estuaries. The esplanade was once heavily modified by logging, farming, and early settler transport. In 1998, a dedicated community millennium group formed to restore the area, transforming the neglected riverbank into an ecological haven. Today, it protects delicate saltmarsh habitats, treats town stormwater through natural wetlands, and is a testament to local native planting and conservation efforts.
