Uretara Landing Reserve is a beautiful, quiet park filled with local history. It's a nice spot to sit by the water, have a picnic, walk along the river. This reserve marks the exact birthplace of modern Katikati. It is the site where the very first Ulster Scots pioneers from George Vesey Stewart’s Special Settlement landed in 1875 to start their new lives. Long before roads existed, this spot on the Uretara Stream was a vital highway for cargo barges delivering essential goods to the isolated fledgling township.
