Tamawhariua Reserve/Foreshore walkway

Coastal walkway with views and dog-friendly sections

About

Tamawhariua Reserve/Foreshore walkway is a national park in Katikati. We offer an accessible coastal walk, with some sections where dogs can be off-lead and others requiring them to be on-lead. Our reserve provides opportunities to observe birdlife from the foreshore and adjacent farmland. We also have parking and wash facilities for free-campers. Our walking route extends back to Beach Road, offering an easy-going path with no significant hills.

We love walking here. Beautiful views. Council provides dog poo bags at the gate. Some parts are off lead and some are on lead. Not too short, not too long. No real hills. Pretty easy going.

An excellent coastal walk. Glad they've competed the route all the way back round to Beach Rd

Not a huge reserve here but with the foreshore and farmland on either side there is an abundance of birdlife to see. On the left is some parking for free-campers and wash facilities and to the right the fenced section of the reserve had some space to let the dog run free. A nice rest stop and not too busy.

This walk has the potential to be a great coastal gem, but it is often very muddy in parts and at high tide it comes to a halt have way round. It would be great to see a boardwalk built for better access across the water like in Tauranga, which could be used for cycling also.

Please note that 258 Beach Road is a private driveway. The residents ask that you do not park on their drive. It is for walking access only. Please park on the side of the road or at the end of Beach Road.
