The Bird Walk (Katikati Open Air Art) is a delight. It is an easy, scenic stroll that follows the Uretara Stream estuary along the Yeoman Walkway, offering combining real wildlife and wildlife sculptures. Dedicated on 26 April 2009, the walk was created by Katikati Open Air Art as an ongoing sculpture project. It honors the memory of Brian Chudleigh (who passed away in 2007), an outstanding local native wildlife photographer and conservationist. The installations aim to raise awareness for protecting rare and endangered native birds. There are artworks made from metal, wood, and iron, including a massive Moa, a Pied Shag, and Oystercatchers. Information cards next to each art piece explain the species. It is a flat, short, and very easy out-and-back walk (roughly 2.9 km) on a well-maintained, wide gravel path. Dogs allowed.
