Absolute worst. Quote "if i try to fix it and i break it, i have to give you a new one. You fix it" ...this about a line trimmer bought from their store last year. The only way the service could have been worse was if they swore at me and spat in my face. AVOID

On Monday 2 September 2024 my older Rover motor mower with Briggs and Stratton engine would not start. Having previously had a problem with the primer bulb, I checked that myself first. I removed the spark plug to check if it was too wet as a sign of flooding and the general condition. It looked fine so I replaced the spark plug by screwing it in by hand until it seated on the seal and then tightened it with a wrench. Due to my physical condition and age (75) I was not able to check for a spark, so took the mower to Action Equipment in Katikati. I wish to mention that in the past I acquired fairly extensive mechanical knowledge in various professions and hobbies. I have rebuilt many car engines, gearboxes and differentials, assembled new lawn mowers (at Kingkat Mowers), written service and repair manuals for many different types of equipment from Defence Equipment to cars and agricultural machinery, so consider myself knowledgeable. I explained the problem with the mower to the gentleman at Action equipment and asked for a rough estimate of cost before proceeding. I was told, understandably, that someone would have to look at it first, but that their labour charge is $125/hour. When I asked how long it would take, he said, “later in the week”. When I had heard nothing by Friday afternoon, I phoned to enquire. I was told that the axle was worn and that a cylinder head bolt was stripped, leading to low compression. I expressed my opinion that a stripped cylinder head bolt made no sense whatsoever, since the engine ran perfectly three weeks ago when I finished mowing lawn and put the mower away. He replied that he would go and talk to the technician and call me back. I heard nothing more until Monday afternoon on 9 September. I was once again told about the warn axle (which I really don’t care about) and then he told me the spark plug thread was stripped and would need a helicoil to repair, once again utter rubbish, as the thread was fine when I last put a spark plug in. I told him straight out that I did not believe that to be possible and that the cost would be prohibitive to repair it, thus, not to bother anymore. He did not argue or mention a stripped cylinder head bolt again. The conversation ended there. While I am not seeking any reparation for this matter, it concerns me that they must be deceiving many naïve customers who would just take their word, thus basically defrauding customers of thousands of dollars! I wish to advise that my issue with Action Equipment has been resolved. I received a call form a manager with an apology for some internal mis-communication regarding the diagnosis of the fault with the mower. I was given what I consider to be fair quote for the cost of the repair. Considering the age of the machine, I have declined to have it repaired. I wish to thank Action Equipment for contacting me to discuss the matter.
