I studied Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) at Tung Wah College, and I really did not enjoy it. Here is why. First, the course design is not good. We had very few chances to practise in the lab. Usually, we had only one lab session, and then we had to take the exam directly few weeks later. There might be no extra time to review or repeat the experiments. This made it very hard to learn properly. Second, some teachers are not helpful. They do not explain things clearly, and they do not care if students are struggling. They just follow the slides and expect us to understand everything by ourselves. Third, the exam system is unfair. For the 4 main subjects of MLS, if you fail either the practical or theory part, you fail the whole subject. For these subjects, you cannot retake the exam. You have to wait a whole year and repeat the entire year again. This wastes both time and money. Also, the passing rate is low. Many students have to repeat, and it feels like a trap. Overall, the programme is poorly planned. It does not give students enough support, and it punishes you very harshly for small mistakes. I spent years there, but I feel like I learned very little and wasted a lot of money. I would not recommend this programme to anyone who wants a fair and supportive learning environment.
