Nine years ago I visited Stephane Battle and his family on a hot summer afternoon. The evening before we had some of his wine during dinner and instantly were sure that we wanted to take some of it back with us to Germany. Communicating was challenging cause my french is below basic, but with the help of Stephane’s wife we weren’t lost in hands-feet-gesture improvisation. Although the marvellous white wine was sold out three cases of red wine (Caruso and a 100% Carignan) ended up in the boot of my car. That’s why we had the chance today to open the second last bottle of Caruso for our dinner. Absolutely fantastic how this wine developed over the years. Right after opening scents of dark berries, pepper and spices, wood and even a bit of tobacco. It only got better over the evening. So don’t miss to stop by when you are around and make sure you have space available to be filled with the fine wines of Domaine de la Meunerie.
