A church and hermitage accessible by hike from Sorède
A really nice spot, with the option to picnic once you arrive. During the summer months, drinks are available for purchase at the chapel. The chapel is very well maintained and pleasant to visit after your walk. Access is quite easy.
From Sorede and the Place du Christ, the path is clearly marked. It climbs relatively steeply, so it's not suitable for strollers, let alone wheelchairs. The ascent offers lovely views, with a few steeper shortcuts along which you'll find arbusiers (bush trees) and their delicious fruit. The Hermitage of Notre Dame du Château is a beautiful building rebuilt in 2003 after a fire. There's also a picnic area and even a BBQ area nearby. The descent can be made by taking another route that also leads back to Sorede. Allow 3 hours for the complete loop. Bring good walking shoes, water, and, depending on the season, warm clothing.
Great hike, very peaceful, no particular difficulties, just wear good shoes and don't forget your water. The view from the top is well worth the beautiful walk. Access to the castle ruins is more challenging, however, and best suited to a more athletic and physically fit person. The access is poorly marked and lacks clarity. I'd gladly go back!
A delightful surprise at the end of a very pleasant hike. Moderate difficulty, with a steady but gradual incline. Discover a few hidden huts nestled in nature. Plenty of space for a picnic and even a barbecue at the hermitage. The climb to the solar furnace is worthwhile for the view over the Lavall gorges. The ascent to the castle is reserved for experienced climbers.
The climb is relatively easy, but good shoes are essential. The ascent to the ruins is more challenging, even dangerous, especially if you suffer from vertigo. Climb the east side, to the right of the climbing wall. Do not attempt this in rainy or windy weather! Superb view...
