Local government office for residents and visitors in Banyuls-sur-Mer
A rather questionable level of friendliness; a simple "have a good day" upon leaving wouldn't have been out of place (I won't dwell on the lady's manners)... and an air of superiority completely inappropriate for a social services department. "Have a good day because I'm well-mannered." It's a shame Regine has retired.
They were incredibly kind and efficient; thank you for your responsiveness and warm welcome.
Please review the vehicle towing protocol. It's unacceptable that they don't have service on Sundays and we have to go to the tourist office for help because there's "nobody" at the local police station, and on the phone, they either don't want to or can't speak English. It's a tourist town in July, for goodness sake! Thanks to Patricia from the tourist office, we were able to get assistance at the police station... Now, the car isn't in Banyuls, excuse me? It's 20 km away, in Argels... and since it's Sunday, they only return it at 6 pm... It's 11:30 am, what am I supposed to do until 6 pm with my suitcases and everything? Well, train to Argels it is, and we'll be stuck there all day. Not only are we going to pay the fine, which is fair, but the terrible thing is that we're going to lose a whole day of our vacation due to the lack of resources and empathy of the public system. My reflection on the city council is that it's pointless for the private sector to invest in the destination, put on concerts in the streets, or try to improve the beaches. In our case, the experience of trying to recover our vehicle was surreal. We won't be returning to this area because of how poorly they manage things; our experience was completely marred by this. Perhaps it won't do any good, but I hope they see our experience as a genuine opportunity to improve... If they want tourists... they need to improve themselves first.
